HRV (Heart Rate Variability)
HRV is only available on certain wearable models and requires overnight sleep tracking to generate a reading. It will not appear if:
- Your device does not support HRV (see compatibility information below).
- You did not wear the device during sleep.
- You have fewer than 3 nights of sleep data — the app needs a short calibration period.
Sleep data
Sleep data requires your wearable to be worn overnight. If sleep is missing or inaccurate:
- Ensure your device was worn and charged above 20% before going to sleep.
- Some Garmin models require sleep tracking to be manually enabled in Garmin Connect settings.
- Apple Watch requires watchOS 7 or later for sleep tracking.
- Staying very still while awake may occasionally be detected as sleep — small movements before bed help.
Steps
Steps are estimated using motion data from your wearable. Small differences between devices are completely normal — a 5–15% variance is typical due to differences in algorithms and wrist placement. If steps seem significantly off:
- Ensure the device is synced with its companion app (Garmin Connect or Apple Health).
- Activities with limited arm movement (cycling, rowing) may under-count steps — this is expected.
- If steps are not updating at all, trigger a manual sync in the companion app.
Active Calories / Move Hours
These metrics are calculated by the app using data provided by your wearable. If they are missing, the underlying activity or step data likely has not synced yet. Allow up to 15 minutes after a workout for these to appear.
